Subtext

by David Garner

underneath my small talk
brews the subtext slut

she libertines my every word
and infuses undeniable intention

she parasites my language
sucking on beneath my lines

diagramming every single phrase I say
with add-ons, tag-ons, shoot-offs, you name it

I say one thing and she tramps out another.

oh dear... yes.. one just thinks one is poeticizing along, writing about frame drums, for instance... and what happens... next thing you know you're right along the sensual edge with your wet thumb, and some "brilliant stroke" is happening... yes , yes, only mine is a *he*, you know.. it's chemistry, I'm sure of it, our muses all just want to stay in bed...

This poem touches me. It feels like trying to write the perfect thing but once you actually write it down, you find something that fits better. I love it, great work David.
