This Present Life

by Genevieve Sturrock

i have lived many lives
spanning generations
and each incarnation
gave me a new perspective

i have suffered
for mistakes made
reaped rewards
for deeds done well
and i know that
my future life
is held in the balance
of how i live today

i have learned
to simply
accept life
and take joy
in what i have

for when i
sorrowed
for what
i thought
was lacking
i lost
the most
precious
thing i had

love

it has taken
all my lives
all my mistakes
all my good deeds
to finally understand
that love surrounds us

it waits for us
to accept it
to open our hearts
and our minds
to the possibilities

and my loves
those wasted
forgotten, ignored
or simply unappreciated
are the incarnations
of my life

my lovers
my failed marriage
my children
my husband
are markers of my ability
to recognize and accept love

i live today
with the thought
of my future life
for how i love now
will determine how
i am loved by all
when this generation
comes to a close

Author's Note: it isn't growing older that scares us, it's the realization that we have lost so much by looking in the wrong direction

To be in the present and accept what we have now is a gift for to truly be aware of love existing around us and to appreciate that love is golden. It is not the age, it is the mileage and the knowledge gained on the journey seems you have learned alot and thanks for sharing. smh
