the world 'oohs' and 'aahs'
over the beauty it sees
the exquisite velvets
the flawlessly patterned silks
the richly embroidered fabrics
that showcase the designer gowns

but i stand in awe of
the humble thread
the invisible interfacing
the button
the hook
the snap

for without these
the fabric would be
nothing but a
pretty puddle
a shapeless
useless mess

much like me
without you
