Hollywood Dream

by David Garner

A drive-by shooting
or a funeral parlor scene.

A victim found by the hidden tracks of a country road's ravine.

An autopsy maybe or a corpse that just floats by.

I want to be a posthumous actor (that's of course after I die).

Some give their bodies to the devil.

And others give it to Christ.

But I'm going to donate my body to a place I'll live forever.

And a land that the public likes.

Some give their bodies to the study of science.

But I'd rather give to a stronger alliance.

I'm going to donate my body to a land called Hollywood.

Hollywood, would you take me?
Hollywood, when I'm gone?
Hollywood, would you take me?
Hollywood, I'll be your son.

I could have a long career.
Just preserve me well.
I'll last a thousand years.
Check the ratings and the money in your bank.
Come on, folks! I need my first big break!
To be in the business, I need to be in Hollywood.

Can't you hear the critics sing, "This dead body is the next big thing!"

And the public raves and they flock to see anything and everything which features me.

And my skin tone changes as each role ranges from genocide to accident to suicide to "I smell a rat!"

My screen time is going to hold your breath.

Going to make you see it differently--little thing called death.

This is a song, right? Because that's definitely where I see it. Either way, great work.

This is amazing! And like Gabriel I read this as a song. I already see this on the big stage of Rock Werchter!!!

Wonderfully dark...Chas Adams meets Shel Silverstein... I relish the vibe - RCat

This just rocks with the dark and sardonic. I love the skin's tone changing with each role, and the last two lines. Hollywood, what a place to spend eternity!! Great read. Thanks.

as macabre as the world is these days, i'm sure that if you pitched this, you'd have agents watching for your obit.
