With labored and deliberate steps,
Weary it seemed or simply tired, perhaps
Legs a bit wobbly, appearing to be weak,
His eyes told it all as I sat there

And moved a bit nearer, to be sure …

In another lifetime, maybe
Bringing a message I needed to see
Before he left this realm
Cloaked in this incarnation as a mild mannered dove,
I wondered …
