Imposter, I Know You

by Genevieve Sturrock

do you think you're clever
using a child's name
i know who you are
and i'm aware of the game

i must play along
not because i am fooled
but because she's my child
and i refuse to be cruel

but, woman, beware
and heed my advice
cause once she's grown up
i'll no longer be nice

Author's Note: i am not paranoid...i'm pissed off!

I like that last stanza a lot, but what I really like is the whole vibe of the speaker knowing they don't have to say any more than what's been laid out so far. It's a nice touch, and you pull it off really well.

This is a very powerful poem -I stood back, took a deep breath with this. I love your strength.

Nothing more nurturing or fiercer in defense than a mother's love. Very well stated.

This resonates with your strong awareness and self control in a difficult situation.
