Procrastination

by Genevieve Sturrock

it isn't laziness
that keeps me from
getting started with my work
it's an overwhelming fear
that i'll do something wrong
and everyone will notice
or worse...
i'll do something perfect
and no one will

I've always had a great repect for "procrastination", and this poem is no exception. Procrastination involves a healthy respect for our personal and a commendable stubborness. This fearless poem about fearful procrastination seems timed nicely, and got done stubbornly and well. However we don't know how long you put off writing it! (giggle)

I just this poem. I'm thinking of someone I know who never moves one way or the other in life. Because of his ear of failing, his fear of success, either way he is between a rock and a hard place. I love that you wrote this. I drug him to the site to show him this piece. He said " God, she knows me.." *lol*

when I read this poem I think about love instantly. I suppose the only difference is if you fall in love "perfectly" then obviously someone will notice. sometimes intimidation and fear ruins a love to be. maybe it is just where I am at currently that makes me think that way, either way, maybe the title is too limiting to the value of this poem...~JPP

Yes! This is perfect. If there's a flaw, I didn't see it. And look! At least five people have noticed it already. Ha. I'm so proud of myself. One time I didn't read a poem and put off (telling myself, I'll go back later and comment) giving feedback. So good to know I'm not all alone with this character flaw. Really relate to the subject matter, but probably tomorrow would be better and I could relate even more.

LOVE IT! every artist torments themselves with the possibilities of mistakes and then there's always the chance that they might get it right :) great piece! you're doing a great job with the costumes, btw :)

This is right on the nose, Genevieve! When people ask what I took in college, I say I majored in writing and minored in procrastination. That P word is a very hard habit to break, especially for people (like artists) whose work depends on the goodwill of others.

Boy, can I relate to this one! In my husbnd's eyes, I do NOTHING and when I do something, he either doesn't notice, or tells me he could've done it better! He's the procrastinator, not me- I do things pretty quickly.
