The Unwanted Guest

by Genevieve Sturrock

if i feed this cold
will it go away
or decide to visit
for yet another day

i could try and starve it
let it wither up and die
maybe without sustenance
it will bug some other guy

do you think that sleep would bore it
and send it on it's way
or just rejuvenate it
enough to want to stay

i'm sick of all the sniffling
the sneezing and the hacking
won't somebody tell me what to do
to send this d*** cold packing

Genivieve, you hit it right on the mark! This is what I've been going through the past several weeks. It's been driving me crazy! I think it's finally run its course and I'll be ok. Your poem gave me a laugh, because I never thought of writing about this stupid cold/flu.

This aptly titled poem says it perfectly. Good rhyme, good rhythm, good riddance. Stylish stuff, Genevieve.

I love this because you take a rather mundane subject and elevate it into the ether of artistry, and of course, the rhyme, you are perfect and I think rhyming with reason is an art in itself that modern poets shy away from for no other reason than they suck at it!

This is soooo accurate! Miserable "guests" they are... unwanted visitor that settles in for a fortnight uninvited. This gave me a wonderful laugh... though I hopehopehope you're doing better now!

Buckley's might want to use this for advertising. Light, lively and enjoyable. Happy sniffling.

I hardly ever get sick (A result of Botox I think), but when I do, I refuse to "sleep it off" I just ignore it. Good write- one everyone can relate to!
