I'm Still Standing

by Scott Utley

Here I am. Take me.
Hold my soul up to your eyes.
See through me and clarify.
Erase my pain, self-inflicted,
misconceived, lost within
this world of sleaze.
Crowded bars and fallow dreams.
Slightly used. I must not fade.
I cannot trust this escapade.
I will not fade. I will not fade.

Here I am. Fold me. Hurry! Hold me!
Rip me through to both my seams.
My tattered soul is halved in two.
Hold my hand. Walk with me
just one last mile to thrilling
truths de-mystified; still, not wild.
Hold me up to your sweet lips.
Drink me in. Sip me slow.
Spit out these seeds of my dark woe.

Here I am. Still not clean but free.
Freed from all my lust, my hate,
remorse and guilt, ten thousand
sins since yesterday. Hold me up
to your clear eyes. See through me.
Soothe my fright, for here I am,
a child again. This day is new.
And here I am. Here I am.
My past is through and here I am
because of you.

Outstanding...for once I am speechless.

There is such urgency dripping from the construct of these towers of thoughts you've penned. My mouth is slack and I can't speak.
