In the Heart of Slumber

by Uriel Tovar

I let you leave
I let you live a little
Because you were still fresh behind the clay
breaking around the dry parts but
not quite solid.

I didn't want to mold you
I didn't want to weigh you down
under the palm of my hand
or press too deep into you with my shoe--

So i poured it deep into you
Watching the water wash you through my hand
Catching you in my fingernails.

I let you harden on your own
I let you run out into the drain
but you were always hardened
on my hands.

What I see here is a beautiful expression of love by granting someone freedom. It's like a statue and a sculptor. The artist must allow the sculpture to be imperfect before he can lovingly create it into perfection. Would love to see this as POTD and voting for it. ;-)
