Semper Fi
by Scott Utley
My father's spirit dwells within me.
He loved the Word. He shunned the sin.
He sacrificed. He paid the price.
Good for him for cashing in.
In the southern pacific hemisphere,
The Japs went nuts and caused great fear.
Arrogant, they said we're dumb.
Big mistake to think we'd run.
We locked our barrels, we loaded guns.
You should of seen those darn Japs run!
Don't call yourselves The Rising Sun.
Just drop your guns, then turn and run.
Tell me now who's having fun?
Far away on every land,
the word was out you'd hit the sand.
Caught off-guard, they hit us hard.
With men like Sam revenge was found.
The yellow sun sank to the ground.
A giant came into the ring.
You took your aim then took your swing.
You came along with your big bat.
You squashed them dead two seconds flat.
These precious medals I've in my hand,
are all that's left of my father Sam.
I'm proud as hell he took his stand.
Tough as nails! That's my old man!
Semper Fideles, so long Sam.
Semper Fi to my old man.
