i'm not the one to step out
on a limb
when the heart is on the stake

i will take myself out of this
equation before
it even crosses your mind

my only fear is a life
alone and yet
i will push you away

so please do not chase me
when i run
unless you see past the facade

and just tell me now
are you
what i'm looking for

or just another broken heart
around the bend

I like the way you play with "sayings" like "out on a limb" and "on a stake" instead of "at stake". I like the equation idea and the crosses (like x's= the unknown in the equation). The unknown-- where fear comes from... and also happiness (around the bend)?

Oh, I understand this so well. No need for apology, Christel, you have written a piece that exposes a vulnerability I'm sure many of us have. It's beautiful.
