To the Desert by Uriel TovarI ripped her heart out
and began to chew
the squishy gum like texture around
my mouth
spitting out the red vinaigrette
on the clumping sand.
she laid still
while the bright orange ants made use
of what was left. 08/25/2006 Posted on 08/25/2006 Copyright © 2025 Uriel Tovar

| Posted by Michelle Angelini on 08/25/06 at 08:06 PM Quite vivid, but I wished I'd waited until after I finished eating to read this ;-) You made excellent use of all 5 senses in this poem, so that I'm right there with the narrator in the moment.
