Dress Up

by Janel Lacroix

She would always let me put her make-up on before I went to school. I used to be able to rummage through her jewlery box and pull out whatever color I wanted...
Blue, red...green.
She would laugh at how dolled up I'd get myself, she'd call me a clown.
At nine, I suppose any shade of make-up will do.
At least that's what my mama would say...
She said it didnt matter how colorful I got, or how dramatic.
As long as it covered the bruises...
She said any shade of make-up will do.
