THE JOURNEY by Terry OlynikREALIZATION
We are undone.
Havoc, dispersion and deceit
Have blocked our intended way.
We are undone:
In a field of light,
In a field of colored light,
We are undone.
DECISION
I am one now
With you.
But wait!
The news was false!
We won't dissolve.
So
Won't you stay?
Diffuse your spirit.
Lay down your garments -
Your dusty armour
And
Sleep.
PREPARATION
You shall be happy
Outrageously happy
In this place,
This windless place,
This place of energy.
The candle shall consume
Your soul
And
My soul
And
The darkness.
A SONG FOR OUR ANCESTORS
Patience
My gentle Dawn.
We shall soon reach
The glowing perimeter
(Of the Talisman's flesh),
Encountering,
Perhaps for the last time,
The wealth of our ancestors.
Once there,
We may again sing the praises
Of our afflicted hearts
And our infected minds.
ENTRY
The frigid walls
Have shattered!
The metal dragons
(Of the black sun)
Are exhumed!
Uncover your eyes.
The way is safe!
We may now approach
The eternal city
And
Touch
The crystal palace.
A SONG FOR OUR CHILDREN
Touch the even edges!
You have touched perfection!
Touch the holy cylinders!
You have touched...existence!
Weep.
Weep and rejoice.
Genuflecting here
On these fragile
Boughs of wisdom.
Humbly offer
Sweet sentences of praise:
To the King of children,
To the four serpents,
To the Holy waters.
Arise!
Our journey is ended.

| Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 01/15/06 at 06:30 AM Here the music is very strong, the past sings through it...I wonder if it is calling up an event of the past, but is/was written in the present. (It does not matter, really, in any case it is fall of "recallling" and invokes this journey.) It is so very suggestive, and I think would call up the reader's personal journeys past...and can be interpreted in many ways... one way seems the coming together, the dedication, the consummation, and procreation of and through...relationship.

Somehow I read it a commentary on the journey of the magi... I too am stunned that you were writing 40 years ago. You must have been writing in your crib! |
