PATHETIC.ORG Alphabet Wars

by Terry Olynik

While there may exist,
An appearance of democracy
On the Pathetic website,
Nothing could be further
From the truth.

Vote on new members,
We are encouraged.
Spend your poetic karma capital -
Let the incoming talent
Burst forth across our pages.

This is a lie of alphabetic proportions!
Want entry into this incestuous site?
Then you'd better be a SCHLBM.
If your last name begins with a letter
Other than SCHLBM you're probably out of luck.

Over fifty percent of Path. members
Have surnames beginning with these letters.
Let's examine the S&M voting bloc shall we.
Over one-fifth of our "members" names begin
With these two mighty letters.

Submit the most pedestrian, sophomoric,
Moon & June middle-school rhyme-o-ramas.
If your a SCHLBM - Poem Of The Day!!!
Critically analyse a SCHLBM offering?
Can we spell terminated?

As a lowly "O" (13 members), I know my days are numbered.
Yet what of the poor Z's (8 members), Y's (six) and I's (five).
Shall we talk blatant discrimination?
Three U's have been allowed entry into this "august" company.
And, as some pitiful, ironic tokens - ONE Q, ONE X.

Realistically I cannot lobby for reform,
The SCHLBM's will carve me up and serve me to the P's.
We have one chance at leveling the playing field.
Admit only minority letters into our midst,
Regardless of the literary quality displayed.

If a "S" submits The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner,
Suggest (gently), a career in brick laying, or politics.
Should "M" deliver an Ode on a Grecian urn -
Tell him to "earn" a real living.
But an "X" submission - golden baby, (even if it includes the word phat) .

I envision one day, an I, a Y,or yes,
Even an "O" occupying poem of the day status.
A day when a "Q" can tell a "S" -
Your poem's blows dude, and not be tossed into
The SCHLBM scrapyard -War X, war Q, wa(poem terminated).

I think you need more activity in your life Terry! But then again, I'm a "B" and you're nothing but a lowly "O". Should I even be associating with you in this way?

Hahahaha! I'm a D! a D! I've never realized how vulnerable my surname could make me *peeks over shoulder, whispers* nice poem, but you didn't hear it from me...

I have to agree - you do need help - since you didn't even mention the A's and we head the list. Sheesh - we gonna git you! Yet even though A's are superior to O's we will forgive you and laugh anyway, with or without smiley faces.

I fear your days are lettered Terry - though that's better than them being numbed :)

I burst out laughing as i realized that i am an S and the lady who brought me in is a C....i am biased and (heaven forbid) mainstreamed! however, my favorite poet is an R...which didn't even rate a mention.

i stumbled across this tonight, and chuckled. my maiden name when i joined was an S. my pen name, an M, and my maiden name, a B.
