night-time and I'm almost sleeping

by Corey Lockaby

I'm taking a break
from my usual stance
holding and, waiting as my thin-rimmed success
merges with hopes unending

and some feeling, sitting on a cloud of tomorrows and
feeding off infinite yesterdays
is running over my defeat

and so then I can say, take these fears
take these sorrows and take these fears

I don't need them, they only drag me down
from my secure, warm inebriation that
(floating warm air) pulls my thoughts through, into your heart

whatever method you choose to disassemble
and pick apart those insecurities

all I ask is that you find what I need in my
time of just that

when I can't do the same

find them and maybe then,
my love can be a mirror
