IN DEFENSE OF KATRINA by Terry OlynikVent not your anger
At one named Katrina.
This is a name most fictional,
Bestowed upon our lady Nature
In alphabetical randomness
By some nameless beauracrat,
Who could never know.
She was born
Not of revenge,
Or apocalyptic/biblical intention,
She was birthed
On the trade winds,
And engorged on the gulf's
Equatorial heat.
A hot-breathed,
Low pressure dynamo -
She is Nature,
She does as she pleases-
Since the planet's first spin.
This time,
We got in the way. 08/30/2005 Author's Note: "It's Nature's way of receiving you. It's Nature's way of retrieving you. It's Nature's way of telling you - something's wrong" (Spirit).
