TWENTY YEARS

by Terry Olynik

He was born
In the time of the Crusades.
His name was Norman
(Or Hadfield).
He was constipated
On long summer evenings
And religious holidays.
Sportive ladies
In crimson dresses,
Taught him tricks -
And misery.
But in the spring
Of his twentieth year,
He smiled.
And dissappeared.
