sand

by Corey Lockaby

astringent ocean water
running down my legs
as i run down the dim line of dusk
that feels only slightly more solid

taking in my quiet desparation
she seemed to think such context crude
an accidental skip in the marching-beat of her footsteps
and when she needed help, my hands wouldn't hold her weight

like water

so i run down the night-time
too dark to see my path, anyway

if i should stumble, the tide
will take its overdue task, with anonymous interest
tightening my skin, my lungs
constricting from the salt-air

and when I stagger back
lay down on my invitingly cold bed
and try to get rid of this death-timer

i'll find a new reason
not to be alone anymore

I enjoyed reading this, you really bring the reader into your emotions. A vulnerable place to be, inside yourself. Great read.
