fighting my family
full of fired threats

stay alive.

no maternal bonds will
make me take a matching
grave, complete with
our last names to

link our rotting corpses.
no, I'll stay alive,
seeking happiness in
other family’s lives;

take-out dinners and
movie nights with
greasy buttered popcorn,
and hugs all around

except around me.
