When You Look At Me

by Jacki M Butler

What do you see when you look at me?

I see a broken spirit

Struggling to regain the flight

That was lost so long ago.

I see a heart ripped apart,

Longing to mend, to be made whole again.

I see a young life beginning to rebuild itself.

What do you see when you look at me?

What made you look at me?

What caused you to turn your head?

Was it something I said

Was it the way I moved?

Something made you see me,

Something caused you to turn  your head

What did you see that made you look at me?

To look at me, when no one else could see me.

You looked through the tears

Saw past the shattered soul.

Into a heart that is bursting

The piece that is longing to mend.

How can you see through it, when no one else can?
