for love of a sea serpent

by Cymbre Dolphay

she lays in the sand
letting the scent of salt
and starlight drown her
in their gentle presence

the tides wash about her feet
gently caressing their chosen
with an infinite tenderness
that any of her lovers would envy

sweet child of the moonlight,
who tempts the ocean serpent
with her beauty and her charm,
remember the vows that one day
may bind you to the leviathon's side

once snared in his grasp
no longer may you wander
those paths of indecision
(except in your most sheltered dreams)
for you are a precious jewel
he would be loathe to lose

still she lays content
upon the ocean shore
for she has waited long
to find this creature
to quench her need to walk alone
