I feel a definite sadness upon reading this as it signifies a relationship in decline; something we all see too much of these days, though even more sadly a phenomenon repeated throughout the ages.

I see a too common human condition here. When love (respect) is not mutual one either loses selfesteem or gains it depending on the dependency factor.
