One More Step

by James Zealy

The Days are prolonged
The spirit is tested
When will I see the light?
Adapt transform
One more Step to go

Job one I am tired
Job Two I am challenged
At home I sometimes feel surrounded
Adapt transform
One more step to go

So much to do so little time
Options to relax intertwined
Things to do, responsibilities to meet
Adapt transform
One more step to go

The house is emptying
Other conflicts to face
Getting older hard to keep pace
Adapt transform
One more step to go

An eerie sensation
One light brightening
Another dimming
Adapt transform
One more step to go

The walk is long
The journey filled with songs
Each singer performing to a unique tune
Adapt transform
One more step to go

The last day light
The end of the fight
At last a feeling of peace
Adapt transform
Just one more step to go.

Author's Note: Sometimes when times are at their worst the only thing that helps me to survive is to put one foot in front of the other, keep going, keep moving, and try to keep things simple.

This is amazingly relevant, James. Thank you.

Ya know, this is one of your best. I love the use of refrain - it so mirrors the content.

Yeah it makes me sad. I like how it seems to span a life. Nice poem :)
