From Your Womb

by Amanda Bullington

Mother-

During each new dawning day,
You read books stoically
Staring blankly ahead
Never seeing the pages.
Least of all never empathizing
With the characters.

Today I wrote this story
For you to comprehend, mother.
I played it out.
Testing waters and wave lengths
So I could gauge any reaction.
Today I left your heartless haven
Just for knowledge:
Would you notice where I’'d gone?

I found my final proof today.
My story ended alone in the snow
Shaking bitterly from the icy wind,
Holding only to itself for comfort.

Mother.
Your womb’'s an empty cavity
Much like you…

And I fear that I,
Coming from your womb
Am empty too.

Amanda, the sadness in the poem is like a cave; a place rather than a feeling. Beautiful work, looking forward to seeing more of it. Welcome to Pathetic!
