Hindsight

by Cymbre Dolphay

"If I told you I was a chronic liar,
would you still believe in me?"

the night was cluttered with echoes
that we counted the highway lines
nothing was asked of our souls
except that we exist in that moment,
your fingers on the wheel of fate
and my voice whispering 'I love you.'

"If I told you it was an act of faith,
would you grant me forgiveness?"

a thousand nights reach into forever
when you have to sleep alone
our goodbyes had been exchanged
so there was only mourning left for you
I could have held on to a memory
but it failed to turn me on

"If I told you the past didn't matter,
would you let me start over again?"

philosophy and liquor made us perfect
but my intentions were never clear
when you stared into my eyes
and told me I was everything
that you wanted to believe in...
your voice undershadowed my needs
