Setting up for the fall

by Aaron Howard

I stare out of these eyes..
And I don’t look for the surprise
I let it slink up into my bed at 4am..
And revel with my breakfast of eggs and spam

I skitter across the highway like I’m drunk
And I sit on the toilet and play kerplunk..
I drive myself crazy like I have a baby dwelling woman beside
And I can’t hide all of these feelings inside..

I’ve tried in vain for years to forget these fears
But all in all, I’m just setting up for the fall..

Detached from the world like a space station
And I look out my front door with resignation
So I bat down my dreams like it’s home run derby
Spent my last hours of youth with Mario and Kirby.
