Zodiacal light

by Aaron Howard

You moved out west coast to get away from the crime
and to move down to the beach, to the hometown of sublime.
You rented a flat and bought yourself a car.
Since without the essentials, you never get far.
You went to a couple of parties and it felt all right
while I'm here in Virginia looking towards the Zodiacal light.
Sure you all the way over in a brave new world
and into this pit of loneliness I've been hurled.
I didn't think that you leaving would make me recollect
since it seems that the choice of real people is very select.
I never knew that I would grow so envious of your new man
since it seems that I was never really hip on your plan.
Maybe it was all my fault to spill the beans of my fears
and think that I was just trying to get some things clear.
Maybe I'm just the fool stuck here to ponder my ill fate
and maybe I'm here to see that I'm just a fool with a clean slate.
So while you go to sleep at noon and feel just all right
I sit here and stare out my window at the zodiacal light.
