Writers block and Koolade (Freeverse)

by Aaron Howard

Someone once told me the best way to get over writers block
was to write about it...

Love blocks any chance you can of having an un biased poem.
Your in love and all you seem to produce is hallmark cards
of loving affection like 20 reasons I love you so...
too bad life isn’t smug like that all over the world...
maybe then children wouldn’t be starving...
Rambling on about love leaves you looking back in bitterness
after the phone calls stop coming and you tell yourself you’re not bitter...
Not one bit...
You look around to all these song and poems you wrote in love
and you ask yourself was I really this stupid and naive?
Was I really all googely eyed for this person to dribble on
about these emotions that now just squeeze the last bit
of pain from my once lent heart?
yes, without a doubt...

After life and love intertwine in writers block you find that the things
you once loved seem so faded and out of place... be it drugs, love, techno, etc.
Who knows what you’ll be like a decade from now.. just don’t end up
in the Jones town family reunion passing out kool aide...
Who knows, maybe you’ll be inspired that you were a diabetic and
had to stick to your thermos of un-sweetened iced tea.
