Shut up; The starving artist

by Aaron Howard

Sitting here in all these tattered cloths.
Grasping at my pockets only to find the fluttering moths.
Swallowing my pride with a copper cup
and all the people screaming at me to shut up.
I'm the starving artist here paying his dues
since for greatness, everyone has to fatefully choose.
Die in forgotten obscurity and just fade away
or break out and come in to save the day?
For only you can make the doubting stumble and fall
so you'd better be breathless waiting for that hot line call.
Swallow your pride and sell off your golden soul
and convince yourself that your still in utter control.
So live it up, these are the brightest and best days
since only paying your dues, brings the paper that pays.
Mark your name in the parapet of stone
so you won't dive off the precipice all alone...
Come into the world blind and crawling
spend the hours doing you verbal brawling..
Draw a picture for all the masses to see
then spark the imagination in their own dear fantasy.
Have them shun you for not being them
and deal with the critics and their lights on dim.
Sit around and point a finger and three always point back
since it's never polite to show what the other side lacks...
Pass the time trying to appease your inner urge
and with the rest of life, you're going to have to merge..
Remember who you are and all you posses
or else you'll end up in a derailed mess..
Make yourself happy, for you are the only one
or else you'll look back in regret when you're finally done.
Shut up is what the people will scream
but their just stuck in a self wrapped dream.
No one has the right to force their minds on someone
even if it's done for the use of spectacular fun..
We have the right to speak our minds and have our voice herd
but when you do, make sure you pick all the right words.
