Insomnia

by Aaron Howard

The flashing lights invade my vision
like some devilish gremlins on a mission.
Ruining my sanctity of inner peace
and on my monkey bars they sprayed grease.
Sweat burns my eyes in this unforgiving heat
and all the invading noises from the street.
The gunfire and horns and the passing sirens.
Hearing it all and what really happens.
Hearing the noise of the talking passer-by.
Smelling those kids down there getting high.
Hearing the dump truck slam on his horn
and permanently from my sleep I am torn.
All these invading forces controlling my mind
Hearing all the irritations that I can find
That manhole cover going clankey clank
That guy robbing the 1st nation bank
that crack head coughing his lungs out
that 2 year old whining and showing a pout
that hooker calling out for her next trick
and that chick next door sucking that guys dick
Please will you all just give it a rest
for I'm sure you all would pass if this were a test.
A test of how bad you could annoy my trying to sleep ass
so please don't make me have to get up and scream to ask.
