Ill Spent

by Aaron Howard

I sit around wondering where to begin
and in hope that I’m not committing a sin.
I see the world thru these dark eyes
and I know all about your little white lies.
I know the dream of what we all want
and I know how life can sometime joke and taunt.
We all know what we need and what we want to be
but this green paper is the thing that stops our fantasy.
We all want a better life but we work for shit
and when it comes bill day, the ass always gets bit.
Blinders to a world where we might be free
but instead we’re stuck in our patient fantasy.
All these walls of paper surrounding our dreams
and hiding us away and muffling our screams..
They take 30 percent of my sweat for change
and then act like me rebelling is something strange.
I’ve never seen where my money went
but looking at the system, I’d say it was ill-spent.
