Happy trails

by Aaron Howard

After all the good-byes and our final embrace
we found we couldn't look at each others face.
After all the hours spent in her eyes
so tragic to see a loving relationship 's demise.
I could already read her eyes
and could tell that this was good-bye.
As I shook my head I lost a tear from my eye
under those lost November clouds in the sky.
So how do you repair a burned down bridge?
Watching all it get pushed closer to the edge.
To finally be pushed over the threshold
then be passed over again and sold.
Something that was worth more than gold
and now it's just a story to be told.
So I kick it over and call it long gone
and dream of that lovers last November dawn.
