The 'S' SENSE OF CHRISTMAS

by Maureen Glaude

Sit and soak up
cinnamon tea
seek a little stress escape
from this season's chaos
settle down with
the signature 'S' Senses
of Christmas

silver, stars, Scotch Pines, Spruces
Santa
stringing garlands
streetlamp's snowdrops
sugar cookies
sampling spices
the scent of baking
and secret lists

SSSH! If you don't sleep
Santa can't come to our house

stockings on mantelpieces
sentimental tree dressings
sips of steaming chocolate
sweet liqueurs
savoury of tortieres
silly stocking stuffers

striped candy canes
satin & silk dressing gowns wrapped up

sending Xmas greetings
skating circles on the pond
shopping in stores
standing in line for your kids' turn
to see Santa with their wish lists

stickers on parcels
seals of Christmas charity
soaps, sweets, snowmen

shoveling!!! Storms!!!
systems swirling
smoke from chimneys
sharing December's
Chanukkah

Saint
Nicholas
Shining Star
of Bethlehem
saying prayers
Sweet baby's birth
straw beneath star-sky
Shepherds standing watch
squeeze your hands together now
sing the song of Our Saviour's season
smile for the sanity of the
silent stillness

Suffice to say, the word "s" never sounded better. Excellent seasonal poem!

Let's see, how many poetic forms do you display here? Your amazing treasury of images and words live in this piece so naturally and with utter delight. I think this poem just pushed me over the edge from busyness and jobstress into the holiday spirit.

Sufferin' sibilance! Try reading this poem in the voice of Sylvester the Cat! Seriously, this is very clever and a delight to read. I especially like the "concrete" arrangement of the tree at the end.... d:-)

Wonderfully done.. the "S"s sing softly... and I love the concrete ending!
