Dearest Love

by S.J. Tyler

I spy with my big brown eyes
that you are not the same as before
something has shaken and cracked your core
you seem like your mind has become unsure
and you think I’m none too wise

I spy in your autumn eyes
that your mind has changed
your thoughts rearranged
and sometimes they look just a little deranged
and I really wish that I knew why

you don’t laugh at my
silly sing-songy jests
you don’t look at life
with the same sparky zest
my dearest love, I’m afraid
you’ve become just a little depressed

...and the rest. the last line...not sure if this is meant to be read as sympathetic, patronising, in denial, or merely playful :>] which makes the whole piece work brilliantly - I read it three times in trying to interpret the ending ( still undecided ) - and it flows like an allegory.
Sleek entertainment!
