Everyman

by Aaron Howard

We all wander around looking for love.
We all long for a woman to hold above.
We all feel lost in a cloudy maze.
We all feel the draw of that love's haze.
We all hate what we don't really understand
and we all express anger with our words or our hand.
We strike down those who are feeble and weak
and we oppress the people who want to openly speak.
We kill woman and children just for sheer sport
and kill our fellow men when they happen to come up short.
We sell crack to our little brothers and sisters
and we discriminate between the misses and the Mister's.
We hate those who don't look like us
and we tell people where to sit on the public bus.
We look at each other with a frown and a fuck you growl
and with out friends we look at the moon and happily howl.
We use women as a toy for amusement
and when they disgrace us we turn to abasement.
We have no morals, honor or class
and when we do, we're just kissing you're ass.
We might act one way and be another
since we all learned it from our father or mother.
We learned how to ruin a relationship, even a life.
Even after you divorced them and got a new wife.
We've killed for sport and drunk fun
while we looked down the barrel of that smoking gun.
We didn't care who was alive or who was dead
just as long as we kept our head.
We ran without law for oh so long
but looking back, it's just been the same old song.
A story of man and a life we all control with our hand
for you and I, as sad as we are to admit, are the Everyman.
