Go to sleep (A message to me) by Aaron HowardGo to sleep
Youve been awake way too long
Nights gone, and its been way past dawn
The suns been setting again on your dreams
and your lives are slowly falling apart at the seams.
Fall asleep in your musty stale state
and find some way to be anything
but awake.
Hide behind a monitor with glazed eyes and a drip drool tongue
and tell the world about, how you are in bed and how well and hung.
Tell them about your lies in disguise and your lack of sensitivity
and dwell in this land of the positive to discern the negativity.
Skittish to a fault about your exercising demons and lost innocence
and deal with all the faults and lies that your life really represents.
Weve got a winner in the winter of social depravity.
Finding something else to stuff into that black hole of a cavity.
Overturned by love into a dark chasm called fate,
where youre straight with having to clean your plate.
filled with Rat meat and puss filled pasta, galore.
When you think you just cant stand anymore.
You lost it a long time ago, but youve long been in personal denial.
Since its seemed your whole life has been on television trial
Youve been born bloodstained guilty but only you thought it wasnt so
and now youve been left with the option of no where else to go
So sleep, deep into a slumber of a different number
where you awaken smarter, for once, in the land of the dumber.
Guessing the verdict while dream speaking backwards about your long lost past
and hope that somehow
someway
this feeling wont come to stay and last.

Posted by Adrian Calhoun on 09/16/03 at 11:28 PM This one's going to leave a mark for sure. The shot heard round the world so to speak. Maybe it'll, pardon the term," wake a few people up. I find it to be a great piece, full of truth.
Posted by Trisha De Gracia on 09/17/03 at 12:44 AM very good. for sleep deprived babble, it's pretty good. I've never been able to rhyme and I usually dislike reading couplets, but this was more than bearable. good work:)
Posted by Alex Smyth on 09/17/03 at 12:59 AM That's the best time to talk to yourself, and you've stirred up a great conversation here!
Posted by Jason Wardell on 09/17/03 at 05:40 PM Sleep is highly overrated and this poem is an excellent example of why this is so. In a state of sleep deprivation, the mind tends to wander around and hit on topics and thoughts that would never otherwise come up. And go to sleep. You gotta prepare yourself for your next stretch of sleep deprivation. :)

Is this poem as a result of sleep depravity or original depravity! Maybe both! :) |
