Darkling

by Christopher Shin

I see myself in dark wings
spread out as I stretch
to greet the harvest moon.
My eyes show darkness as
soft velvet night with
a twinkle like thousand
dying stars.

I do not know if I have ever
had a heart beat in my chest,
but sometimes she reminds
me that I might have had
one in the past.

I can feel the beating
when the one I cared for
stabs and digs her claws
into my soft tender organ.
Each year goes by and
my wings grow darker.

My eyes blink away dry
tears of memories long gone.
Sometimes angels come to
me to comfort my sorrow.
They dance in their glittery
light of joy and glee.

I envy them so and want
to pluck their happiness
from their branches,
but being a darkling,
I can only admire their
happiness.

For who am I to take
away such joy and glee
from such a cold and
heartless creature like
myself.

your light is out there, chris. i refuse to believe otherwise. in fact, one of these days, i'll have to just come by and lift the shades. :) then again, i think those bitter chords were made for your hands alone... regardless, this gleeful soul is going to go prance into my insanity. :) great piece.
