Heart's Cinnamon toast

by Aaron Howard

Watching you while you sleep
holding this secret to silently keep
Dreaming of a way to make you mine
hoping that it’s only a matter of time
Asking myself am I right this go around?
Am I the lucky one to be found?
Is this thing between us worth the toil
or am I just boiling my heart in oil?
Dreams to arouse the inner voice
leaving me with yet another choice.
Worry about self doubt and remorse
or just let this connection take it’s course.
Watch you while you slumber off
and pat your back when you cough.
Hold you down when you can’t stand anymore
and be there to keep you warm on the floor.
Wipe your tears when you cry
and be there to hold your hand when you die.
Be there when you need me most
and be the butter to your heart’s cinnamon toast.
