Self-doubt and that blanket of security

by Aaron Howard

It’s hard to focus on the little things when your life has derailed
and all you can seem to worry about are all the things you’ve failed.

It’s hard to stay on track when all you’ve cared for, burned to the ground
and it’s just left you standing there numb and shell-shocked dumbfounded.
Your dreams and aspirations left in the sinking ship.
As you realize you’ve lost your white knuckled grip.
Struggling to cover yourself in your blanket of security
and realizing that safety is just a delusional fantasy.

This life will test your heart and soul
to see if you can keep a smile while out of control…
Slipping off the proverbial highway of life into the ditch of cynicism
with your heart so heavily beleaguered by everyone’s criticism.

Author's Note: This was written after I had lost everything that mattered in my life... and how I noticed that everything in life is a test... It doesnt matter if you win or lose, just as long as you keep playing...
