The door she walked out on route 71

by Aaron Howard

As I look upon this screen I tell myself it’s all a dream.
It’s just this reality that I tend to rip apart at the seams.

This lie I tell myself to feel all right in the middle of the night.

This dream and fantasy twisted in it’s own scream of owning reality

I stare into her eyes and can tell her mind is off playing in the park
and then I look around and I can’t seem to find her after dark.
The streets are safe now as the sun slowly rises,
slowly showing us all those hidden surprises…

She was found in a ditch down off route 71
with three bullets from a rapist’s gun.
The case closed down like a depression bound store
and now all I wish, is for her to walk back through that door…
