For old times sake

by Aaron Howard

For old times sake

It was late in the evening when I walked into the lobby
since I’d been on a long road trip, fancying my hobby
and then it happened all of a sudden, our eyes had met.
I suddenly realized I’d lost the old school bet…

It’d been over a decade since we’d spoke
and in each others mind was an on-running joke…
A love that surpassed the others
and surprised all the fathers and mothers..
A love that burned in our minds for years
and now it came down to a moment that clears.

I saw the slight shock in her eyes, as I approached her
and confessed that my intentions were pure.
We sat down on the couch and talked for a few
about where’d we’d been, what’d we do
We laughed over high school and the errors we’d made
and about how long it took for the pain to fade…

In that lobby, we hallucinated in each other’s eyes
and summed it up in dreams about those past goodbyes
We hugged and kissed and went separate lives
finding jobs, husbands and wives…

A second romance would devastate
so we noticeably chose to deviate
and just leave it at conversate
just for old times sake.

Author's Note: This is how about you meet up with someone you havent seen in a long time..and how you save yourself the pain you went through before for the sake of a happy memory.

Oh, what a beautiful poem. So sad.
