Her Eyes* by S.J. TylerWith eyes of autumn
she ran away
down the alleys of my perception
used my spine like a ladder
stepped to the very bottom and shook it
a chain reaction
that rippled down, end to end
and my startled back arched
I love her cat eye marbles
so feline they probably glow in the dark and pounce,
can glaze over and stare blankly,
or have the power to melt what they view
it feels stuffier now, hot and bubbly
I think she just looked at me
I see in her eyes
brown crispy oak leaves surrounding her iris
surrounded by a dry autumn bed of grass
at the end of September
or maybe November,
on its outer edges,
almost ready to hibernate
but still glowing with innate life
as I contemplate this, the marbles return catlike again
and Im back in the heat of June
and Im melting
