Been There

by S.J. Tyler

You’re not me
You shouldn’t try to be
I’m nothing, not worth your time

Why am I idolized?
I’m nothing at all!
You should just be yourself
And not set yourself up for a fall

Over and over again
I have failed
Trailed defeat, and still
And still you feel the need
The desire
To follow in my footsteps
Down an echoing hall, hallowed by grit

Have you not learned your lesson,
From the time this road has thrown you to the ground?
You haven’t figured out
That you’re better when I’m not around?

Over and over again
I’ve seen you trip,
Skip the chances you should have taken
Faked mimicry of me
Of a me that you cannot be!

I’m one of a kind, and a zero at that
You shouldn’t chase around a pawn scum covered rat
Leave me in my uniqueness
That you will never possess
If you were smart, which you’re not
You would have learned like the rest

I’m not worth your effort
And you are definitely not worth mine
I’ve tried to tell you, you’re wasting your time

I’ve blazed the trails of disgust
So you wouldn’t need to follow them
But for some reason you must,
In the dust you will find my footprints
Of shoes you now wear
I don’t care
Have the decency to
Make your own mistakes
Un-caked with the dirt of me having already been there
