who you think you are

by Andrew S Adams

torch down the avenue in the middle of a city
it is conformed, suburban and another same
pale shade of khaki.
everything surrounding the eyes of this beast-
burn it to the ground, spare no hope.
this is a disposition, tainted by the thoughts
of pillage, tainted by thoughts of destruction.
you say brash things, expecting others to partake
in your war, while you sit comfortably on the sidelines
never feeling the true reprocussions.

(and for once, this isnt about bush.
this is about you, 16-year old friend
this is about your 'idealism' and fear
to understand your own choices, so you
make bold declarations of 'self-identity'
but confusion abounds in you- after all,
one minute there is an anarchy patch on your
messanger bag; the next moment, an american flag.)

remember. you are never who you think you are;
