his infatuation, not mine

by Cymbre Dolphay

I didnÂ’t put me up on a pedestal
that was all you boy
donÂ’t hate me for not loving you
IÂ’m not your cross to burn
certainly not a burden to bear
donÂ’t make me more
than I can handle to be
you donÂ’t get that IÂ’m less

will you jump off for me
into the abyss of craziness
is my painfully tragic death
going to make you weep
like you knew me oh so well
I am too dizzy to breathe
you are too straight to comprehend

this affection you profess
is a whole lot of hormones
pointing you in my direction
my rejection is nothing more
than my heart telling your testosterone
“There’s too much of you
and not enough of him.”

Great psychological assessment on attraction... I love the line “There’s too much of you and not enough of him.” Great poem.
