van gogh

by Andrew S Adams

thank you- for painting shut my eyes.
when tears form, they now come by way
of mouth.
you have crafted me to be blind-
much like the love you inflict
on to me, on to you.

Through a veil of complacency,
here was i subdued.
here was my captor;
shrouded in vibrancy.
blank in vivacity.
painting a landscape so black;
and i was the lone subject
in the midst of this numbing gray.

Andy warhol inspired you
to imprison me, side by side
with my other selfs
in slightly offset shades of blue.
Jackson Pollock taught you to fly;
creating a mess of me.
randomly, i will become your
beautiful mistake.
Salvador Dali coerced a
bending of time;
making my agony pan out in
stunning slow motion.

and Van Gogh, he taught you
to run circles around me;
and that self mutilation equals
love.

are you painting me to love you?
