she said, "not my problem." by Andrew S Adamsa casual conversation about politics
and how those poor children on the tv
are dying all day, every day-
but hey, we hit the mute button
if it wasnt our triumph that killed them.
we speak of atrocities, of terrible wars
while discussing other such pressing matters
declaring that, kids these days
wear their jeans too low;
and the schools are going to shit
because of all those damn latino kids.
and you find that, most dont care about war
because they cant complain enough
to get anything changed.
but if they scream racist slurs
and forget that culture needs no
hearing aid, perhaps something
might change around here.
never mind the impoverished kids
screaming through the TV screen;
"this is not my fight to fight.
sure, i feel bad about them, but who am i?"
she says, faking polite.
and there's a kid, crawling in the street for food.
