trapped within a music box

by Cymbre Dolphay

Beyond yonder tower
I see the moon
dancing among the stars

And in yonder tower
a beauty sleeps
one hundred years away
while roses and briars
twine round her tower keep

Twelve maidens pass by
and depart across the lake
that rests beyond the forest
each with slippers of silk
to dance the night away

A flock of geese I spy
chased by a small boy
while a lovely peasant girl
combs and plaits fair locks
befitting of a queen

Nightingales sing sweetly
of parted lovers
a maid with voice so fair
enchanted to bear wings
and her lover's searching

A princess plays
beside a moonlit pond
her joy shall end
when her golden ball
is rescued by a frog

A clock somewhere chimes
the hour of midnight arrives
a coach departs with haste
the lady it bears
is half bare of foot

a small boy wanders
through an icy world
his heart is frozen over
by the shard of mirror
resting in his eye

a pile of straw
that shall become gold
a queen's fears brought to life
by a greedy little man
whose name she can't guess

not a fish with a tail
but a maiden with legs
her sweet voice muted
by an evil sea hag
all to hook a prince
